Sixers vs Hornets Pick: Wednesday, February 3rd

Sixers vs Hornets Pick: Wednesday, February 3rd: The Sixers have won 3 straight, and are coming off a 119-110 victory at Indiana in their first win of the season without Joel Embiid.

Philly was down 16 in the 4th quarter and switched to a zone defense to take over the game. The Sixers outscored the Pacers 31-6 over the final eight minutes, to earn their sixth win in seven games. Tobias Harris went for 27 points and 8 rebounds, while Ben Simmons put up 21 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Dwight Howard had 11 points and 15 rebounds off the bench.

Embiid missed his fifth game of the season after landing hard on his back in Wednesday’s victory over the Lakers. The 76ers star (who is currently lined at +550 to win the 2021 NBA MVP Award) played through the injury and had 37 points and 11 rebounds in Friday’s win over Minnesota. Sixers’ head coach Doc Rivers said Embiid was still sore from the hard landing. I fear the Sixers are feeling good about themselves and are vulnerable here early.

The Hornets are playing good basketball. They’ve won 3 straight over the Pacers, Bucks, and on Monday night at Miami 129-121 in overtime. Malik Monk came off the bench to score a career-high 36 points and make nine 3-pointers, Devonte’ Graham added 24 points.

The Hornets rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final 2:47 of regulation. Cody Zeller had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Gordon Hayward scored 19, and LaMelo Ball finished with 14 points and seven assists for Charlotte in his first start. Lonzo Ball got the first start of Charlotte’s career because Terry Rozier missed the game with a sprained right ankle.

Rozier (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the 76ers. The Hornets will be down another starter. PJ Washington left in the third quarter; the initial diagnosis was a sprained right foot. He will not play in Wednesday’s game against the 76ers.
