UFC 256 Undercard Best Bets: Gavin Tucker vs Billy Quarantillo
Gavin Tucker vs Billy Quarantillo Pick – UFC 256: Billy Quarantillo is 4-0 in the UFC, winning 3 fights by stoppage and profiting his ‘Inside the Distance’ backers +5.65 units along the way. Billy Q opened as a coin-flip favorite to the Canadian Gavin Tucker, but has since drifted to as high as -185. It’s UFC Men’s Featherweight action to kick off the UFC 256 card on Saturday night.
We are coming off of back to back monster nights and looking to close out 2020 strong! We have just two more cards to put some money in our pockets, and UFC 256 is a big one. This stacked card will be a blast to watch, and there are tons of betting opportunities.
Gavin Tucker is a fighter who made it to the UFC in the prime of his life and then suddenly disappeared. Tucker went 1-1 in the promotion, and then we didn’t see him for two full years. Tucker made his glorious return to the octagon and finished both Seung Woo Choi and Justin Jaynes in the 3rd round, both by rear-naked choke. Tucker is a strong offensive wrestler who has mixed in his submission grappling quite well. Tucker looks to take his opponents down and transition to the back, making excellent use of the body lock and trips. Even though Gavin is a grappling heavy fighter, he showed us in his fight at UFC Vegas 6 against Justin Jaynes that he is more than capable as a striker as well.
Billy Q is a fighter who I have my eye on. This kid shows all the signs of a fighter who you will want to bet on in the future, and he is just 31 years old and in his fighting prime. Billy won on Dana White’s Contender Series in spectacular fashion and has been very active and locked up three wins in the UFC. Billy is a submission artist with a high output striking game to pair with it. You may think that Billy’s skill set makes him dangerous, but his gas tank is the greatest weapon he possesses. Billy simply never stops.
We are being treated to a showdown between BJJ black belts, and on a card stacked with exciting matchups, this one is an early contender for fight of the night. These fighters match up pretty well everywhere. Both men are black belts, but not all black belts are created equal. I do give Billy a slight edge in pure BJJ, but Tucker gets the marks in wrestling. These men are drastically different on the feet, but Billy will enjoy a nice little reach advantage over his opponent, and I do believe he is the more fluid striker.
Gavin Tucker vs Billy Quarantillo Pick:
UFC 256 Undercard Best Bet: Billy Quarantillo (-160) via Bet365: I think this fight will come down to one single issue: Cardio. Tucker is not a fighter known to gas out and can grapple hard for a full 15-minute fight, but the pace that Billy sets is something that most men just cannot keep up with.
Tucker has been giving about as good as he gets and even slightly being out-laned by his opponents in the UFC on the feet. Tucker averages 3.67 significant strikes per minute and absorbs 3.93, whereas Billy Q has landed an astounding 7.51 significant strikes per minute but has only absorbed 3.45. The strike differential Billy Q is setting right now is legendary.
When you consider both men are so adept at grappling, there is a chance that this fight is contested on the feet, and I expect it to be painfully obvious that Billy is in the driver’s seat. Should Tucker put his wrestling to work, he can make this fight close. Still, I believe Billy’s scrambling ability and the way he attacks off his back with elbows and never allows his opponents to settle will negate Tucker’s wrestling and maybe even make him second guess taking Billy to the mat.
