Panthers vs Red Wings Pick: Saturday, January 30th

Panthers vs Red Wings Pick: Saturday, January 30th: The Panthers are coming off their first loss of the season, 3-2 in a shootout at Columbus. 2013 Maple Leafs 3rd round draft pick Carter Verhaeghe is getting a massive opportunity, playing on the 1st line with Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair. He scored 9 goals and 4 assists last year in 52 games for the Lightning, in a limited role last year in his rookie season. Verhaeghe has made the most of this early opportunity with 4 goals, and 2 assists in 4 games. If that line can be formidable and Alexander Wennberg can step up as a 2nd line center, this team might be better than I anticipated. I still don’t expect them to make the playoffs and will try my luck at fading them throughout the year.

The Detroit Red Wings are coming off their 4th straight loss 7-3 at Dallas. After losing 2 games in ugly fashion against the Blackhawks, the Wings came back and looked good in their 1st game against the Stars losing 2-1 in overtime. Their last game Saturday night was a disappointing 7-3 loss at Dallas on Thursday night. It was a step backward, but they did come back from 4-1 down to make it 4-3 before the Stars pulled away. Tyler Bertuzzi has 8 points and 3 powerplay goals to start the season, and he has looked good with Dylan Larkin. Jeff Blashill runs a tight ship, and I expect the Wings to come out fast and hard and will offer us a juicy score on the 1stP
